K is for . . .

Kid lit. Yeah!

Some of my favorite books are children’s books:
  •        To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
  •        Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J. K. Rowling
  •        Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli
  •        From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E. L. Konigsburg
  •        The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J. R. R. Tolkien
  •        Hatchet by Gary Paulsen
  •        Ramona the Pest by Beverly Cleary
  •        Jacob Have I Loved, by Katherine Paterson
  •        Junie B. (Jones), First Grader: Toothless Wonder by Barbara Park
  •        The Bartimaeus trilogy by Jonathan Stroud
  •        Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo

And that’s just a start.

Did I mention your favorite(s)? If not, leave me title(s) and author(s) in a comment.

    1. Jen, all these are middle grade or young adult fiction. Probably the easiest read is Junie B. Jones, which (you may know) is a series.

  3. Great list. I didn't know Lovely Bones was kidlit. Wow. I'd like to add Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery, Peter Pan by J.M Barrie, and Loser by Jerry Spinnelli.

    1. Good additions! I read Anne of GG long ago, don't think I ever read Peter Pan.

You're right: The Lovely Bones is classified as adult fiction, but it has a 14-year old protagonist (dead) who is the narrator. It really is for mature readers. Thanks for the correction, Leslie.

  4. I love reading (and writing) children's literature! A recent favorite was last year's newbery: Clare Vanderpool's Moon over Manifest.
